Patience is a Virtue: Wait to Reactivate Cancelled Sections

If you mistakenly cancel a class, you must wait at least 5 minutes before reactivating it. Why, you might ask? The integrations between SIS and Course Search & Enroll are complex. It can take minutes, not seconds, for class status changes in SIS to be fully processed by CS&E. If you cancel then quickly reactivate a class, you risk making it entirely unavailable in CS&E.

Here’s the correct order of operations:

  1. You cancel a class then realize it was a mistake, e.g., you accidentally cancelled the wrong section of a course or you cancelled a class in the wrong term.
  2. Wait 5 or more minutes. Refill your beverage, stretch your legs, do other work, etc., but do not update the class status yet.
  3. After sufficient time has passed, update the class status from Cancelled to Active.
  4. Remember to re-add class info that was automatically deleted when you cancelled the class, such as day/time meeting pattern and instructor.

After you vow to not mistakenly cancel a class again, cut yourself some slack. Remember our never-ending mantra: this work is complicated!
