Classroom Assigning Timeline

Term Roll

The Term Roll process rolls all non-GA classrooms forward. All GA classrooms roll forward also, but are converted to “0000 GA RM”.

Initial Call

During this time period, you should be entering “0000 GA RM” if you want a class section to be assigned a General Assignment (GA) classroom. If you are using non-GA space, you should enter that space’s facility ID. The batch room assigner will be run following this update period.

Final Call

During the Final Call you can review and alter your room assignments. If you wish to change a room assignment, you can either enter “0000 GA RM” or enter that GA room’s specific Facility ID (i.e. 0050 0272 for 272 Bascom). Curricular Services will attempt to assign the requested classroom or the best available. If you release your current assignment to request a new room, we cannot guarantee that the old room will still be available.

Ongoing Maintenance

You can make changes after the schedule of classes have been published online by either entering “0000 GA RM” or entering a GA room’s specific Facility ID (i.e. 0050 0272 for 272 Bascom). You will not be guaranteed of getting the specific room you ask for, but you will be assigned a GA room. You are guaranteed of doing no worse than the room you are assigned to at this point; old room assignments will be kept if nothing better is available.

How do I request a General Assignment Classroom for a course?

  1. Navigate to Maintain Schedule of Classes in SIS
  2. Click on the Meetings tab
  3. Enter 0000 GA RM in the facility ID field
  4. Click Save

Can I request a specific GA classroom based on instructor preference?

During Initial and Final call of the curricular build cycle, you should enter any specific room characteristics that instructors request (i.e., seminar seating, technology, etc.). After the Schedule of Classes has been published, curricular reps may enter a specific GA classroom if it appears available in 25Live.

When requesting GA rooms, will I always be assigned in my 'home' building?

A number of factors are considered when assigning classroom space, including but not limited to room characteristic requests, requested room capacity, the ‘spread’ of a department’s class times throughout the day, and home building location. While not guaranteed, in almost all cases, if all other factors are equal, a ‘home’ building department will get a room in their ‘home’ building over a non-‘home’ building department.
