Updated Valid Grades webpage enhances non-GPA grade guidance for instructors

The Office of the Registrar’s Valid Grades webpage has been updated with more detailed guidance on when awarding grades that don’t factor into students’ grade-point averages may be applicable.

The updates, which went live on August 7, include:

  • Revised descriptions of grades that don’t factor into students’ GPAs;
  • Clarity for instructors on when using those grades is possible; and
  • Links to related campus policies.

Grades that are no longer used have moved to the Transcript – Key/Legend KnowledgeBase (KB) document.

These updates, drafted in collaboration with the Center for Teaching, Learning and Mentoring (CTLM) and the Office of Academic & Career Success (OACS), build on campus-level efforts completed last year to simplify and standardize the awarding of incomplete grades.
