Helping a Student Who Doesn’t Have an Enrollment Appointment

Helping a student who doesn’t have an enrollment appointment:

Did they apply to graduate for the current term?

If so, they need to update their application for graduation to a later term or select “Not certain at this time” to allow term activation and enrollment appointments for the following term(s)

Are they currently discontinued?

If so, they will need to be reactivated in SIS before they can be term-activated and receive an enrollment appointment. If they were not enrolled for the current term (excluding Summer), they will need to apply for reentry to be reactivated. The Office of Admissions and Recruitment manages the reentry process.

Common Reentry Hang-ups:

  1. The student is readmitted but hasn’t yet accepted their offer of reentry admission.

They must follow the instructions in the “Admitted Reentry Checklist”  to accept the admission offer before being matriculated, term activated, or receiving an enrollment appointment. Once they formally accept, those remaining steps will happen automatically via overnight processing.

  1. The student applied to reenter for fall but hopes to enroll in summer courses.

They must follow the instructions near the bottom of the “Apply as a Reentry Student” website in the “Change Term of Reentry to Summer” section.

Bonus Tip for Summer Enrollment: Summer does not count as a required term for term activation – if a student does not enroll in Summer coursework, they are still automatically term activated and given an enrollment appointment for Fall (barring anything that would ordinarily prevent term activation). However, if a student enrolls in Summer coursework at UW-Madison, Summer does count as the subsequent term for academic action purposes. For example, a student on probation or strict probation could be academically suspended based on their UW-Madison Summer coursework.
