IMPORTANT: COVID-19 IMPACTS ON DIPLOMAS AND RED DIPLOMA COVERS
Because the May 2020 Commencement Ceremony will be delivered virtually, red diploma covers will be mailed to graduates after their degrees have been officially conferred. The red diploma cover will arrive separately from the diploma since the two items are being prepared for shipment by different vendors.
Diplomas are mailed approximately four weeks after a student’s school/college has notified the Office of the Registrar that they have completed degree requirements. Because the special grading option during disruption will allow eligible students to choose to convert letter grades to SD/UD grades, we anticipate that the approximate end-of-semester timeline will look like this:
- May 14th – Faculty grading deadline
- May 22nd – Deadline for students to elect the SD/UD special grading option due to COVID-19 disruption (when applicable)
- June 1st – Earliest date that we anticipate receiving notification from schools/colleges with their list of degree recipients. School/college degree clearance activities will continue on a rolling basis throughout the month of June. Please note that this is an estimation. It’s possible that we will receive degree completion information slightly earlier from the small number of programs whose students who are ineligible for the special grading option.
The Office of the Registrar encourages May and August 2020 graduates to add a “Diploma Address” in MyUW > Student Center > Profile > Addresses to ensure that the University has the most up-to-date information about where to send the diploma and red diploma cover. If no “Diploma Address” is listed, both items will be sent to the “Home Address” on file. International students will still need to have a “Diploma Address” on file for the diploma to be ordered.
Diplomas are mailed approximately four weeks after your school/college has notified the Office of the Registrar that you have completed all your degree requirements.
Your diploma will not be mailed if you still have certain types of holds on your academic record. When you clear your holds, your diploma will then be automatically released for mailing (you don’t need to contact us first).
Diploma mailing address
Your diploma will be mailed to your Home address as listed in Student Center. If you want your diploma mailed to a different address, please add a Diploma address in Student Center.
