Veteran Admissions Information

For veterans seeking admission into the University of Wisconsin-Madison, there are a couple of different options available to you depending on your eligibility.  If you are getting out of the service or have already separated from the service and have not taken any college courses prior to applying here, you should apply directly to the Admissions Office. Here, you can apply directly on-line by scrolling down and clicking on the Application.

If you did not have a successful high school career, you may want to apply to a junior college such as Madison Area Technical College or one of the other UW system schools before coming to UW-Madison.

If you are a veteran and have previously taken college courses and want to transfer the credits here, you have more options of admission available to you.

TRIO: This is a federally funded program that is open to first generation college students, who are incoming freshmen, and in some cases transfer students whom:

  • Neither parent nor guardian with whom the student resides has received a bachelor's degree.
  • Low-income, based on parents'/guardians' taxable income.
  • Students with special needs: physical or learning disability.
  • Academic Advancement Program (AAP): This program was introduced in 1966 to the UW campus to support students in four essential ways:
    • Targeted minority students
    • Students with disadvantaged backgrounds
    • Returning students
    • Students with nontraditional educational backgrounds
